November Updates

Even with the loss of darkness, we still are running. The good thing about Highland is that we have access to miles of trails that are lit and clear from snow. Yes, snow. We run through the winter on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:00 PM and Saturdays at 8:00 AM.  These are fun runs with a goal on maintaining a base over the winter months before spring training starts. Keep checking back on the blog to see what races are occurring or what events are happening in the area.

There are two different Life Time sponsored runs coming up -
1. The Turkey Day 5K - www.lifetimefitness.com/events/turkey-day-5k/
This is a family event with the run starting at 8:20 AM and the walk at 8:30. There is also carnival rides for kids. A great Thanksgiving Day activity for the entire family.
2. The annual Reindeer Run 5K is another family-focused run or walk. The activities start at 9:30 AM at Lake Calhoun on the 6th of December. Check it out at www.lifetimefitness.com/events/reindeer-run/

FALL TRAINING - MONDAY, WEDNESDAY AND SATURDAY ALL YEAR LONG!

Don't forget that even though the summer training is over, fall marathons are complete and all you can think about is recover and staying warm, our running program continues throughout the year. If you struggle every spring with the ramp-up period as the weather warms, you can keep strong by keeping that base through the fall and winter.

Marathons to start thinking about are the Phoenix Rock N Roll in January and Boston in April. There will be members from LTF that will be training for these programs. I will update you on what club (maybe Highland) the training program will be at for you to train with others.

Race time is still strong in the metro. Keep checking out upcoming races.

Meeting times are Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:00 PM and Saturdays at 8:00 AM.

See you on the trails,

Jeff

FALL TRAINING AND KICK-OFF THIS WEEKEND

Don't miss the opportunity to join the group for the Highland Park Fall Training kick-off. This is the 'official' start of the marathon, but you can join at any time over the next several weeks. Saturday is also the first 7:00 AM start, so set your alarms one hour earlier to make it on time.

The team did exceptionally well this last weekend at Grandma's. The weather was warm, but everyone worked hard to reach the finish line. There were numerous PRs, qualifiers and great finishes.

See you this Saturday for the kick-off. Sign up is in the right column of the blog.

See you on the trails,

Jeff

Twin Cities Kickoff and Grandma's Best Wishes

Twin Cities Marathon is always popular for Highland Park. We do have 50 extra entries into TCM - please send your name, email address and phone number to Jan Ochocki or Mike Stoik - email addresses below - so she can make sure you receive a slot. This is a first come, first serve basis.

You'll also need to sign-up for the training class on Active. The address is list under the events section.

Lastly, you'll need to volunteer for TCM packet stuffing on 20 September 2008 or you'll need a proxy. If you or your proxy doesn't show up for the stuffing, TCM will not let you run.

MARATHON KICK-OFF is this Saturday, 14 June 2008 at the Plymouth club. This is an all-club run to celebrate summer, spring Grandma's training and start our fall training.

Directions can be found on www.lifetimefitness.com under the club locator.

The run starts at 7:00 AM - Summer is here so we're starting early to help us avoid the heat.  Please show up at 6:45 AM so we can help you match up with your pace groups. The distance is 2-10 miles with water stops every mile.

There will be kids activities so bring family and friends.

After run activities -
  • Jesse from Brooks will provide a Gait Analysis and talk about Brooks products
  • A yoga demonstration/class specifically for runners
  • O2 run information seminar
Breakfast Potluck Afterward
If you come, please bring something fruit or yogurt related to share. We do anticipate between 100-300 people.

Enjoy the kick-off.

Weekly Update

Great weekend everyone! Wow, what a difference a couple of weeks makes for weather. Enjoy the week. REMEMBER, no run from the club on Memorial Day.

11 May 2008

Our First Blog

This is the new blog to check on what's going on within the running community that you belong to at the Highland Park Life Time Fitness. The blog will replace the weekly emails that you receive from me on a weekly basis.

I will still keep the tips, race information, registration information, etc..., out on the blog. This will be a good opportunity for you to see what is going on, as well as provide feedback if you want to on the running topics.

Some of you have noticed that I've started bringing my camera to the runs. I will try to capture different running activities as we go through the year so you have a chance to 'see' what is going on at Life Time.
